Rep. Jeff C. Wheeland is serving his second term of office representing the 83rd Legislative District, and brings a wide range of experience in both the private and public sectors.
Jeff’s legislative focus continues to be on tax fairness and will advocate for a diversification of the tax base beyond the property tax in Pennsylvania. He is a supporter of the concept of home-grown energy as a way to retain and recruit family sustaining jobs.
In this session, Jeff serves on the House State Government, Local Government, Gaming Oversight and Liquor Control committees.
His first foray into public office came in 2007, being elected Lycoming County commissioner. This step into public service came after working in the family business, Home Service Beverage. He took over running the business in the early 1990s, and started a second business, First Ice.
He took that accumulated business acumen to the office of county commissioner to make conditions better for the overall economy. He was elected to a second term in 2011 as the people recognized his ability to work with people, no matter what their politics were. This resulted in the ability to move the county forward in the responsible development of the Marcellus Shale natural gas play that has added to the industrial and economic strength of Lycoming County.
In addition, Jeff has been a strong proponent of the fight to keep illegal drugs out of the county.
Harrisburg needs to have strong fiscal discipline, this is what continues to bring to the hall of the House of Representatives.
A native of Montoursville, he graduated from Montoursville High School. In developing his business background, Jeff earned an associate’s degree in business management from the former Williamsport Area Community College, and took additional post-secondary business courses at Lycoming College.
Jeff enjoys the pursuits of hunting and fishing and is an avid defender of Second Amendment rights as a life member of the National Rifle Association. He is also a devoted community volunteer, working through organizations like the Red Cross. Jeff is a member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Williamsport.
Jeff is a 2010 graduate of the County Commissioners Association of PA Academy of Excellence. He is also a past director of the Malt Beverage Distributors Association of Pennsylvania and is a current member of the Young Men’s Republican Club, Williamsport Polish Club, Moose Lodge 866, Consolidated Sportsmen of Lycoming County, Sons of Italy, the Williamsport/Lycoming Chamber of Commerce and the Lick Run Hunting Club.
The 83rd District consists of part of Lycoming County consisting of the city of Williamsport and the townships of Armstrong, Clinton, Loyalsock, Old Lycoming, Susquehanna and Woodward and the boroughs of Duboistown, Montgomery and South Williamsport.
