LYCOMING – On Oct. 15, Rep. Jeff Wheeland (R-Lycoming) announced that the governor and The Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR) are awarding a Community Conservation Partnership Program Grant to Loyalsock Township for $300,000, for rehabilitation and further development of the Loyalsock Community Recreation Center in Loyalsock Township.
“Community centers are the heart of small towns like Loyalsock. They are key to maintaining connections among residents and to providing resources and safe and fun recreation environments for families,” said Wheeland. “The people of Loyalsock Township deserve the best quality community facilities, and I am proud to see such growth in Lycoming County.”
The project will include construction of pedestrian walkways, building addition, parking area and stormwater management measures; installation of lighting and utilities; and ADA access, landscaping, project sign and other related site improvements.
The DCNR noted that the 4,000-square-foot addition to the existing center will increase opportunities for after-school programming and for senior activities. The township’s After School Recreation Program will be able to expand and the center will also become home to the Loyalsock Center for Healthy Aging. Recreational and educational classes, as well as lunch daily, will be available to seniors.
Questions about this grant or any other legislative issue should be directed to Wheeland’s district office at (570) 321-3719.
