WILLIAMSPORT – In cooperation with Lycoming County District Attorney Eric R. Linhardt and Misericordia University, Rep. Jeff C. Wheeland (R-Lycoming) will host an anti-fraud seminar for nonprofit agencies on Thursday, Oct. 26, from 6-8 p.m. at the Trade and Transit Centre, 100 W. Third St. in Williamsport.

“This comprehensive seminar is designed to help nonprofit organizations prevent embezzlement and fraud within their ranks and make financial management more efficient,” said Wheeland.

The keynote speaker at the event will be Dr. Fred Croop, professor of business at Misericordia University. At the request of the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development (DCED), Croop developed the Financial Management and Internal Controls Guide for Volunteer Emergency Services Organizations.

Wheeland said in the future, all volunteer organizations will be required to follow the guide in order to be eligible for grant funding from DCED.

In addition, Linhardt will address financial mismanagement cases his office has had in recent years and how nonprofit groups can avoid those situations.

“I am pleased to participate in this collaborative event where government and education can work in tandem for the benefit of groups that help our residents,” said Wheeland.

This is a free event, open to the public.
